Trim an MP4

Cut a section out of an MP4 without re-encoding it. The video and audio packets are copied straight across, so the clip is identical to that part of the original — no quality lost, and it finishes in seconds. Runs entirely in your browser; the file never leaves your device.

How to Convert MP4 to MP4 Locally

  1. PHASE 01 // STAGE SOURCE

    Load .mp4 Payload

Drag and drop your .mp4 file onto the working surface or use the system file dialog. File magic bytes are verified locally on device.

  2. PHASE 02 // CONFIGURE

    Set Codec & Quality Parameters

Select a quality preset (Lossless, Visually Lossless, Balanced, Smallest) or adjust advanced encoding switches in the options panel.

  3. PHASE 03 // COMPILE & EXPORT

    Export .mp4 to Disk

Click CONVERT to execute local WebAssembly compilation. Save the finished .mp4 directly to local storage, or stage it for chaining.

Technical Details & FAQ

[?]Why did my clip start slightly earlier than I asked?

Because video frames are not independent. Most frames are stored as differences from earlier ones and cannot be decoded on their own, so a cut that copies data has to begin at a keyframe — and keyframes are usually a few seconds apart. convrtr moves the start back to the nearest keyframe and tells you exactly where it landed. The alternative is to re-encode everything between your chosen point and the next keyframe, which is what a frame-accurate trim does and why it costs quality.

[?]Is the trimmed clip really identical to the original?

Yes. The compressed packets are copied without being decoded, so the bytes describing the picture in your clip are the same bytes that were in the source. Only the timestamps change, because the clip now starts at zero.

[?]Why is this so much faster than other trimmers?

Most trimmers decode every frame and encode it again, which takes minutes and loses quality. Copying packets skips both steps entirely — the work is reading and writing, not compressing, so it runs about as fast as your disk.

[?]Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. convrtr has no server that receives files. Everything runs in your browser, and you can confirm it by opening your network tab while trimming — or by going offline first.

[?]Why convert from MP4 to MP4?

MPEG-4 Part 14 Video (MP4) and MPEG-4 Part 14 Video (MP4) serve distinct roles across the digital workflow. Converting to MP4 provides optimized compatibility, modern compression efficiency, or standardized playback across web browsers, operating systems, and media production environments.

[?]Is the MP4 to MP4 conversion lossless or lossy?

The conversion utilizes H.264 (AVC), H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 video + AAC audio. You can fine-tune quality presets (Lossless, Visually Lossless, Balanced, Smallest) to eliminate noticeable degradation while achieving optimal file size reduction.

[?]Does convrtr upload my files to any cloud server?

Never. convrtr is architected with a strict zero-upload model. All processing, decoding, decompression, and encoding happen 100% locally on your machine using sandboxed WebAssembly and Web Workers. Your data never touches an external server, database, or analytics collector.

[?]How can I convert MP4 to MP4 from the terminal / command line?

You can execute this conversion locally via command-line utilities such as ffmpeg, cwebp, or ImageMagick. For example: see the developer terminal recipe provided in the technical specifications dossier above. convrtr provides the identical local-first capability directly inside your browser without installing CLI packages.

[?]Can I batch convert multiple MP4 files to MP4 simultaneously?

Yes. You can drop multiple .mp4 files into the instrument to process them concurrently in browser Web Workers, or click 'Open in Master Studio' to queue mixed formats, configure individual targets, and export as a single ZIP archive.
