Trim a FLAC file

Cut a section out of a FLAC file without losing quality. The file is decoded, cut exactly where you choose and re-encoded — and because FLAC is lossless in both directions, the result holds the same samples the original did. Runs entirely in your browser.

How to Convert FLAC to FLAC Locally

  1. PHASE 01 // STAGE SOURCE

    Load .flac Payload

Drag and drop your .flac file onto the working surface or use the system file dialog. File magic bytes are verified locally on device.

  2. PHASE 02 // CONFIGURE

    Set Codec & Quality Parameters

Select a quality preset (Lossless, Visually Lossless, Balanced, Smallest) or adjust advanced encoding switches in the options panel.

  3. PHASE 03 // COMPILE & EXPORT

    Export .flac to Disk

Click CONVERT to execute local WebAssembly compilation. Save the finished .flac directly to local storage, or stage it for chaining.

[ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ]

Technical Details & FAQ

[?]Doesn't re-encoding lose quality?

Not with FLAC, and this is the difference that matters. Re-encoding an MP3 costs quality every time, because each pass discards more audio. FLAC reproduces its input exactly, so decoding and re-encoding returns the identical samples — you can do it a hundred times and compare the files. The only cost is the time it takes.

[?]Is the cut exactly where I put it?

Yes, to the individual sample. Audio samples are independent of one another, so unlike video — where a copy-based cut must start at a keyframe — there is nothing to snap to and no shift to report.

[?]Why is the trimmed file not proportionally smaller?

FLAC's compression depends on what the audio contains, not just how long it is. A quiet passage compresses much further than a dense one, so cutting half the running time might remove rather more or rather less than half the bytes. The audio itself is unaffected either way.

[?]Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. convrtr has no server that receives files. Everything runs in your browser, and you can confirm it by opening your network tab while trimming — or by going offline first.

[?]Why convert from FLAC to FLAC?

Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC) and Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC) serve distinct roles across the digital workflow. Converting to FLAC provides optimized compatibility, modern compression efficiency, or standardized playback across web browsers, operating systems, and media production environments.

[?]Is the FLAC to FLAC conversion lossless or lossy?

The output format (FLAC) is inherently lossless or supports lossless operation. Your original visual or audio fidelity is mathematically preserved without quantization artifacts.

[?]Does convrtr upload my files to any cloud server?

Never. convrtr is architected with a strict zero-upload model. All processing, decoding, decompression, and encoding happen 100% locally on your machine using sandboxed WebAssembly and Web Workers. Your data never touches an external server, database, or analytics collector.

[?]How can I convert FLAC to FLAC from the terminal / command line?

You can execute this conversion locally via command-line utilities such as ffmpeg, cwebp, or ImageMagick. For example: see the developer terminal recipe provided in the technical specifications dossier above. convrtr provides the identical local-first capability directly inside your browser without installing CLI packages.

[?]Can I batch convert multiple FLAC files to FLAC simultaneously?

Yes. You can drop multiple .flac files into the instrument to process them concurrently in browser Web Workers, or click 'Open in Master Studio' to queue mixed formats, configure individual targets, and export as a single ZIP archive.
